Cottage as it is now Cottage at turn of century
Our cottage is between the 2 moors "Exmoor and Dartmoor", set in the heart of the farming community, in the quite friendly village of Witheridge. The village has 2 pubs both serving home cooked food and both having local ales and beers. We still are lucky enough to have a post office where most every day needs can be purchased from grocery´s to fine wines, beer, pasties or just post a letter. If you can not find what you want in the post office then the newsagents may well stock it. The village also boasts it has an Art group, bowling club, gardening club, WI, football club, drama group, cricket club, play ground, golf society, line dancing , Brownies and the bell ringers, not to mention the composting group who collect the garden waste and lovenly turn it into compost and sell it back to you. Life in the village is by no means boring there is always something going on. In the village hall the drama group holds plays and murder mystery evenings, other events include harvest festival suppers, garden shows, jumble sales, art exhibition's and dances. Just outside the village there are several riding stables some doing courses ranging from the beginner to expert riders.If you prefer the more slow pace and wish only to take the dog out for a walk then there are many paths around the village to walk off the excellent lunch at one of the local pubs. The nearest large towns are Tiverton and South Molton both being market towns with a good selection of shops. The cottage is in driving distance of the north coast where you can explore picturesque villages like Lynmouth,lynton,Ilfracombe,Woolacombe,Instow,Appledore and Westward ho to name a few. About the same driving distance you can reach Devon's south coast with Seaton to Dartmouth to explore.

In June around the 23rd its holds "The St John´s fair", this has been going on for 100´s of years. I only first found out about it after we bought our cottage in Witheridge, since moving to Portugal our little village here has the same celebrations every year too. The celebration of St John the Baptist is held the world over and it took me 45 years to find out about it.
